Mary Sutter holds the Social Media Strategist position for the AMA NEO’s Communications Committee, directing social presence within the organization and beyond. She’s also an account manager at Acronym, a global social media company headquartered in New York.
Who are you?
I have a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree majoring in music business from Western Illinois University and an MBA in digital marketing from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University (#BoilerUP). I’ve worked in marketing in numerous industries including music/entertainment, technology (hardware), automotive and banking. I am currently an Account Manager and Global Social Media Strategist for Acronym (New York) with clients in the hospitality (hotels/resorts) industry.
Why Did You Decide to Volunteer for the AMA?
I started volunteering for the AMA as a way to network and learn about other companies/industries in Northeast Ohio.
What do you love about volunteering?
It’s a great way to give back. I’ve been lucky enough to have some amazing mentors in my career and this is a way to pay it forward. I also love the people at the AMA and love spending time with them!
What are your hobbies?
I may or may not have a road/trail race addiction! I will be completing my 27th half marathon at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon (Canton) at the end of April. After that, I’ll begin training for my 2nd full marathon – TCS New York City Marathon in November!
What are three interesting facts about you?
1. I was a saxophone major as an undergrad.
2. I grew up on a horse farm in Central Illinois.
3. Confession – I’m a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs (duck and run!).
If you could be one character in Mad Men (or any other television show) who would it be?
I’ve never seen Mad Men! Maggie in The Walking Dead is my hero. Wouldn’t want to be her (life is rough in the zombie apocalypse), but I’d love to channel her courage and strength!

Continue to learn more about PPC (pay per click advertising) and SEO (search engine optimization) to go along with my social media marketing background.
